BIPARTISAN GROUP OF
SENATORS ENDORSES FOSTER CAMPBELL FOR PSC - May 13
2002
NORTH LOUISIANA -- Senate President John Hainkel and six
North Louisiana state senators today announced their
endorsement of Foster Campbell for election to the
Louisiana Public Service Commission.
Joining Hainkel, R-New Orleans, in supporting fellow
Senator Campbell were Republicans Ron Bean and Max Malone
of Shreveport and Democrats Noble Ellington of Winnsboro,
Charles D. Jones of Monroe, Mike Smith of Winnfield and
Greg Tarver of Shreveport.
"It's unusual for so many senators to agree on anything,"
Hainkel said. "But the people who have worked most closely
with Foster Campbell know better than anyone the
remarkable personal traits that have earned him so much
respect in the Senate -- his integrity, his absolute
honesty, and his unflinching courage in fighting for what
he believes."
Besides being Louisiana's most visible and powerful state
senator, John Hainkel, a staunch Republican, is a leading
pro-business voice in state affairs. He said Campbell's
long record of consumer activism and "the consistent
courage and integrity he's shown in his years in the
Senate" make Campbell an ideal candidate for the PSC.
Campbell, an insurance agent and farmer, is stressing the
need for a more active, visible, and service-oriented PSC
to protect consumers and help small businesses grow -- an
issue of particular importance in North Louisiana.
In the Senate Campbell, D-Bossier City, represents
Bienville and Webster parishes and portions of Bossier and
Claiborne. In February he announced his campaign for the
Fifth District seat on the PSC, representing all or part
of 24 North Louisiana parishes. The election is October 5.
"I am honored by the support of John Hainkel and my fellow
North Louisiana senators," Campbell said. "We may cross
party lines and disagree on issues, but I respect the work
that they do for the people of Louisiana and value their
endorsement of my candidacy."
