Jindal Skips Louisiana Municipal Association Forum AND
Important Congressional Votes

BATON ROUGE -- Bobby Jindal ducked a gubernatorial campaign forum in Monroe Saturday, claiming pressing congressional business, but then missed all but one vote in the House of Representatives that day, voting records show.

“He not only cut and ran from his opponents and local officials from all over Louisiana, but he also ducked important votes on two groundbreaking energy bills in Congress,” Foster Campbell said.

“It’s just as I said last week,” Campbell said.  “He’s afraid to debate and be held accountable for his actions.”

And now it looks like he’s either afraid of voting in Washington or too busy to do his job,” he said.

Jindal had been scheduled to speak apart from the other candidates at the LMA convention Saturday morning.  But he didn’t make it.

From the Monroe News-Star:  “Jindal had been scheduled to speak Saturday at the convention, but LMA President Lynn Lewis of Delhi said Jindal was unable to attend because of voting being held in Washington.” (Click here to view the full article).

But congressional records show that Jindal voted only once on Saturday morning in the U.S. House of Representatives--on the first vote of the day, a motion to adjourn.

Jindal was absent from the remaining 22 recorded votes during the day’s session, which didn’t conclude until 1:11 a.m. Sunday morning. (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/index.asp).

Jindal missed votes on energy bills that promote conservation and renewable energy resources and that end $16 billion in tax breaks for the oil and gas industry.

He also missed the vote on passage of appropriations for the Department of Defense for the next fiscal year.
